- Electrons in the ultra-thin Ag film which is epitaxially grown on
Si
(111) surfaces are confined along surface normal direction, between the
Ag/Si interface and Ag surface (Fig. 1).
- This quantum resonance becomes dominant when the thickness of the
film is small as the Fermi wave length.
- A series of quantum well states in the thin film can be detected
by optical second-harmonic generation (SHG) (Fig. 2).
