- A flat thin Ag film can be obtained by Ag deposition at 80 K on
Si
(111) surfaces and annealed slowly to room temperature.
- The film surface becomes
atomically flat in wide region at a magic thickess of 6.4 ML,.
- This mechanism can be understood as the balance between the
energetic increase in the quantum confinement and the decrease in the
charge spill-out (Fig. 2).
